How to migrate to Canada and settle as an international student?
Canada is slowly emerging as one of the top destinations for Indian students to migrate to. Its friendly migration policies, cordial natives, world-class educational institutions, English language as the medium of communication, high standards of living, etc. are some of the reasons why it is gaining popularity among international students to pursue their higher education. There are thousands of Indians living in Canada for years now. That makes it an attractive destination where Indian students can migrate without having to worry about a massive cultural shock. Rudraksh Immigration Group in Mohali lists out the procedure for Canada Study Visa requirements.
The study permit is a document that allows foreign nationals to study at designated learning institutions (DLIs) in Canada. Following are the eligibility criteria that one needs to display to apply for the Canada Student Visa:
- You must be enrolled at any DLI.
- You must have enough money to pay for your tuition, living expenses and return transportation for yourself and any family member who might have travelled with you.
- There must be no criminal record against you which can be proven via a police certificate. Note that this is something that may be necessary only in certain scenarios.
- You need to be in good health which can be proven via a certificate of a medical examination. This too will be asked of you only in certain situations.
- Finally, you will need to show the authorities that you have the proof to leave the country after your studies are complete.
The aspects like your eligibility to work while studying and how much you can work, depend on what is specified in your study permit. In fact, the date of your leaving Canada will also be mentioned therein. If you decide to change your DLI, you must mention it in your IRCC secure account. The following documents are needed for the application:
- You need proof of acceptance from your DLI including conditional acceptance and prerequisite courses.
- You need proof of identity which could be your passport along with two passport-size photos. You could submit these online but will need the physical documents later on.
- You need proof of financial support which could be done by documents like a Canadian bank account in your name, Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) from a Canadian financial institution, education loan proof, bank statements for the past 4 months, bank draft that could be converted to Canadian dollars, proof that you paid tuition and housing fees, sponsorship letter, proof of scholarships. Note that not all of these are mandatory and depend on each case.
- Generally, you need to show CAN$10,000 per year excluding tuition fees if you are travelling alone or CAN$833 per month in addition to the tuition fee.
- You also need to submit a letter of explanation highlighting the reason for your course and that you understand your responsibilities as a student in Canada.
- For all the other requirements, you can check the visa office requirements on the Internet.
After gathering these documents, you must apply online and produce the physical documents when asked. You would also submit your biometrics and get the eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization) or Visitor Visa (Temporary Resident Visa) at the border service office to enter Canada.
